Stephen Sondheim Tribute @ Sooner Theatre

Just days after his 80th birthday, the music of artist, composer and lyricists Stephen Sondheim will be at the heart of Side By Side By Sondheim, a musical revue presented by The Sooner Theatre, 101 E. Main Street in Norman, March 26-28 and April 1-3.  Tickets are still available.  All shows begin at 8pm, except the Sunday, March 28 matinee which begins at 2 pm.

The sophistication, wit, insight, heart and genius of Broadway’s most innovative and influential artist is at the center of this tribute to composer-lyricist Stephen Sondheim.

The Sooner Theatre’s production of Side by Side by Sondheim features many performers whose faces and awe-inspiring voices have graced the Sooner stage in the past including Marcy Gonzales, Brandon Adams, Aubrey Adams, Michael Maixner, Harry Perrin, Patty Flick-Hill, Jennifer Teel and Emily Ward. New to The Sooner stage, but not to audiences who have seen him perform often with Cimarron Opera Company is the talented David Duty. The show is directed by Lisa Fox.

This dazzling array of some of Sondheim’s best-known songs features numbers from landmark shows that revolutionized the musical theatre with their masterful craft and astounding creativity: “Company,” “Follies,” “A Little Night Music,” “A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum,” “Anyone Can Whistle” and “Pacific Overtures,” not to mention the classics written with musical theatre giants Leonard Bernstein, Jule Styne and Richard Rodgers, “West Side Story,” “Gypsy” and “Do I Hear A Waltz?” Also included are delectable rarities from the television musical “Evening Primrose,” the film “The Seven Percent Solution” and the hit revue “The Mad Show.”

Tickets are $30 & $25. Discounts are available for seniors, children (12 & under) and groups of 10 or more. Tickets are available 24-hour a day online at www.soonertheatre.org. During regular business hours tickets can be purchased by phone at (405) 321-9600 or in person at The Sooner Theatre. Business/box office hours are Tues-Fri, 10am-Noon and 2-5pm.

The box office also opens one hour prior to show time. Half-price student rush tickets are available one hour prior to show time for high school and college students who present valid school ID at the box office.
