Art created by tots, toddlers AND pre-schoolers to be displayed at Santa Fe Depot

Paintings by some of Norman’s tiniest talents will be on display during the St. Joseph’s Early Childhood Development Center’s third art show May 17-23 at Norman’s historic Santa Fe Depot, 200 S. Jones Ave.

The young artists are enrolled in the St. Joseph’s ECDC, which provides care and education for 110 children ranging in age from six weeks to five years.

“This show involves so many aspects of school life,” said center director Maureen Dolan. “Parents, grandparents and teachers make the frames and stretch and paint the canvases in preparation for the children to create their own masterpieces. With the younger babies, the teachers dip tiny feet and hands into paint to effect woodland scenes and abstracts.”

St. Joseph’s ECDC assistant director Sara Wall called the art show one of the highlights of the year. “The buzz in the school as I walk from class to class reflects the creativity and dedication of our teachers as they work with our youngest citizens. The outcome, much of it by accident, is always energetic and joyful.”

The exhibition will be open Monday, May 17 through Friday, May 21 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will culminate with a reception and silent auction at the Depot at 5 to 8 p.m. May 23. Both the exhibit and auction are free and open to the public.

All proceeds from the auction benefit St. Joseph’s ECDC.
