Dads Receive Free Admission to OU Museums

The University of Oklahoma’s two world-class museums – the Sam Noble Museum and the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art – offer free admission for dads on Father’s Day. All dads will receive free admission at from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 20.

In addition to their permanent exhibitions, both museums are offering special exhibitions over the Fathers Day weekend. The Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History features Chocolate, an exhibition showcasing the plant, the products and the history of chocolate. The exhibition, and its national tour, were created by The Field Museum, Chicago, and will remain on view through Sept. 12.  This project was supported, in part, by the National Science Foundation.  Local media support provided by Cox Media and The Oklahoman.

The Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art presents Wanderlust: Travel and American Photography, through Sept. 12. Since the early 20th century, travel has been an important part of the American experience, especially the family vacations and road trips synonymous with summer vacations. Wanderlust: Travel and American Photography examines the role American highways and interstates have played in the migratory desires of the American people. The exhibition includes photographs from Berenice Abbott’s photo essay of Route 1; the 1981 American Roads portfolio, complied by Victor Landweber; and Dennis Stock’s James Dean: A Memorial Portfolio, which documents the actor’s final visits to his homes in Indiana and New York.

The Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History is located at 2401 Chautauqua Avenue. Additional information is available on the museum’s Web site:  www.snomnh.ou.edu or by calling (405) 325-4712.
