Pianist Performs Fantasies by Chopin, Schumann, Others

The University of Oklahoma School of Music presents the Norton Visiting Artist Series with a concert featuring pianist, Joel Schoenhals at 8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 23 in Sharp Concert Hall.

Schoenhals’ repertoire for the concert includes “Fantasies” by Robert Schumann, Frederic Chopin, Moritz Moszkowski, Yinghai Li, Yiqiang Sun, and Pexun Chen.

Schoenhals is professor of piano at Eastern Michigan University. An active performer and recording artist, Schoenhals has received praise for his recordings Bartók’s “For Children,” “Lieder of Schubert Transcribed for Piano” by Franz Liszt, and “Musical Moments of Schubert and Rachmaninoff” on Fleur de Son Classics. He has most recently recorded Schubert and Schumann “Fantasies” and a CD of Chinese piano music to be released in 2012. He was a featured artist, judge, and teacher at the Besparmak International Piano Festival in North Cyprus and has performed concerts in China and South America.
