Success Continues for Spring Art Walk 2007

Nearly twenty participating galleries in the Norman Arts District celebrated the Spring Art Walk 2007. The walk was held in conjunction with May Fair in Andrew's Park and Indian Art Market at the Jacobson House. The Norman Gallery Association sponsored the walk that took place Friday, May 4, and Saturday, May 5.

Various artistic mediums including sculpture, wrought iron furniture, paintings and photography from local artists were on display through out the downtown and other galleries. Each gallery had a reception for the artists showcase, one gallery had live music and others not only displayed art but also offered tasty treats from various Norman restaurants.

"The two art walks held in Norman, including the spring's, continue to grow and are very successful for the artist's participating in the walk. Our artist, Yvonne Chafin, sold almost four thousand dollars, and was commissioned by several patrons for special projects. It was awesome to see people walking up and down Main Street, having fun and supporting the arts in Norman," says Marta Burcham, NAC executive director.

The weather leading up to the walk was rainy, but the sun had come out that weekend to see the artists as well as over 200 people from all over the Norman and metro area. "This is my first time for the Spring Art Walk and I already cannot wait for the Winter Art Walk. It is nice to be able to walk into each gallery and talk with the artists that have their art on display. The food and wine was also a nice touch," says Sarah Chastain, Oklahoma City resident and art observer.

The Winter Art Walk 2007 will begin on Friday, November 30, through Sunday, December 2. The Winter Art Walk also welcomes the return of Artrain USA on Friday, November 30. Native Views: Influences of Modern Culture is the theme for Artrain USA's final tour and will showcase 71 contemporary artworks by 54 Native American artists.
